About Us

Welcome!

Mike and Robin Mitchum

I enjoy being the pastor of Neighborhood Church. I moved here in 1990 because I liked what I saw in this community. There is racial and economic diversity here. There is also a long history of welcoming all types of people in the church and in the community. I like that history.

Those of us who have trusted Jesus have experienced His love, acceptance and forgiveness. When we gather together, we worship Him and learn more about what it means to be His followers. There is a family atmosphere here at CNC where newcomers are warmly received. I attempt to deliver sermons that are easy to understand and relevant to our daily lives. All this helps us to grow in our love for the Lord.

Because of the love we have received, it is natural to want to share that with our neighborhood. Here at CNC we attempt to love our neighbors by reaching beyond the walls of the church and showing Christ’s love.

I hope you will feel at home here!

Our Beliefs

  • WE BELIEVE in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and life.
  • WE BELIEVE in one God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man.
  • WE BELIEVE that man was created in the image of God; that man sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death but also spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all are born with a sinful nature.
  • WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice and that all who believe on Him are justified on the ground of His shed blood.
  • WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His ascension into Heaven and in His present life there as our High Priest and Advocate.
  • WE BELIEVE in the personal and imminent return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ .
  • WE BELIEVE that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
  • WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection of the just and the unjust, the everlasting blessedness of the saved, and the everlasting conscious punishment of the lost.

Our Church

C&MA Logo Cordova Neighborhood Church is a non-denominational church, affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). The Christian and Missionary Alliance is a missionary denomination committed to evangelism, discipleship, and church planting among unreached and responsive peoples worldwide. This affiliation gives our church freedom for creative ministries and also gives an opportunity to call upon the C&MA in time of need for protection and accountability.

Global outreach is a very important part of Cordova Neighborhood Church. Along with our local outreach emphasis, we hold, in cooperation with the C&MA, a Global Outreach Weekend each year. Missionary speakers from all over the world come to speak. We also take pledges to help support the Great Commission fund, which helps finance the ministries of C&MA missionaries. These funds are administered by the C&MA national office.

Our History

The Reverend and Mrs. Samuel E. Rudat founded our church in 1955 as they caught God’s vision to minister to the then new community of Rancho Cordova.

The church first met in the Rudat’s home, then at several local business locations until moving to our present site in 1960.

In 1977, the congregation welcomed Reverend and Mrs. James Voss. 1984 saw our new sanctuary completed to God’s glory. Volunteers did most of the construction work. Our doors were opened to a group of Hmong from Laos, who had immigrated to this area. In 1985 they established their own congregation and continued to share our facility until April, 1994 when they purchased their own building.

In November 1990, Reverend and Mrs. Michael E. Mitchum came to us from Piedmont, California. Pastor Mike holds a Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary. He is married and has two grown children. Mike has been very involved in the community.

Pastor Mike’s insight into our community and its needs brought about the implementation of target ministries. With this, we are able to reach out and minister to our neighborhood while addressing their needs. Ministries that have come out of this effort are Neighborhood Meals, Seniors in Service for Christ, Volunteers in Tax Assistance, Respite Club and more. These efforts have truly built a strong foundation for our growing church.

In November 1999 we bought the property adjacent to the church with a dream of building a multi-use facility to enhance our ministry to families, seniors and especially youth. Plans have been made and we will begin building as funds become available.

In January 2006, we officially opened our new children’s wing. In addition to being available for our children’s programs, these facilities are used for child care and a preschool program for low-income families.
